Breathing helmets with head protection – important protection in dangerous work situations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wearing respiratory helmets with head protection<\/strong> is an important form of protection when working in hazardous environments, particularly in trade, industry and construction. This includes, in particular, possible contact with hazardous substances<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n


The exact substances that fall under “hazardous substances” are regulated in the GefStoffV. In general, these include substances or mixtures that can harm people and the environment during their manufacture or use. This also applies to substances that have been assigned limit values. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The respiratory protection helmets are worn in foundries or tunnel construction, for example. They also offer a high level of occupational safety during hazardous mechanical activities to prevent head injuries and respiratory hazards. Harmful particles swirl in front of the face, especially when drilling, milling or grinding. This can also severely damage the lungs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These special work helmets must have special safety standards and special features for such hazardous work. There are various models of safety helmets with different features for a wide range of work applications. Features of respiratory protection helmets <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Breathing protection helmets<\/strong> are made of extremely durable materials. They are robustly equipped according to the different purposes for which they are used. This means they offer a high level of occupational safety in the event of contact with hazardous substances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the protective helmet head section for the head, these are also robustly equipped for individual areas of the head<\/strong>, for example to enable a clear view and unhindered breathing. This is necessary in the event of heavy smoke and heat, for example. These helmets therefore offer outstanding protection for the affected parts of the body, which are particularly exposed during hazardous work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are suitable accessories for work helmets to ensure maximum safety when handling hazardous substances<\/strong> or in other dangerous work situations. These include complete vision<\/em> and eye protection<\/em>, hearing protection<\/em>, protection against extreme heat or cold<\/em>, protection against flames<\/em>, hot metals<\/em> and liquids<\/em>, respiratory protection<\/em> and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standard criteria according to EU standard for safety helmets for occupational safety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Protective (respiratory) helmets must meet standard criteria in accordance with the EU standard <\/strong>for occupational safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These include certain European standards (EN)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EN 166 <\/strong>– European standard for eye protection, which regulates general requirements for personal eye protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EN 397<\/strong> – European safety standard for safety helmets. It describes and determines in particular the penetration resistance, flame resistance and shock absorption against deformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design of the safety helmet <\/strong>must meet the criteria of the European standard EN 397. The shell of the helmet consists of very hard plastic materials in which thermosets or thermoplastics have been incorporated. The safety helmets have special shapes and are made of different resistant materials. They have special properties for the different work requirements. The helmet shell is designed to absorb the forces acting on it and distribute them via the interior. In this way, the helmet wearer’s head is protected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various manufacturers offer models of respirators with accessories for a wide range of applications. With its models of helmet head pieces from the M-300 series, for example, 3M also offers the wearer eye and face protection tested to EN166 standards and helmet protection to EN397 in addition to respiratory protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
