If there is a suspicion of <strong>air quality pollution<\/strong>, for example due to the <strong>occurrence of various symptoms<\/strong> <strong>(&#8220;sick building syndrome&#8221;)<\/strong>, an <strong>air measurement<\/strong> can provide clarity.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>For example, <strong>pollutants can be measured precisely in-house<\/strong> with the <strong>GSA measuring device <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa-messgeraete.de\/SG350ex-SG-350-ex-350ex-sampler-charger-guide\">SG350ex<\/a>. This can also be used to detect explosive gases. If <strong>harmful dusts<\/strong> are suspected to be present, <strong>particle measurements of <\/strong>different <strong>dust fractions <\/strong>such as <strong>A-dust and E-dust<\/strong> are also possible with the <strong>GSA measuring devices<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa-messgeraete.de\/SG10-2-SG10-2-sampler-battery-tube-guide-charger_1\">SG10-2A<\/a>, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are pollutants?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>term pollutants<\/strong> refers to all substances that pose a <strong>risk to health and the environment<\/strong>. This includes both acute and chronic effects. Contact with these substances is almost inevitable, as some are present in the ambient air. The <strong>hazard potential<\/strong> therefore depends on various factors. These factors include the <strong>type of substance<\/strong> (substance-specific hazards such as toxicity), <strong>substance concentration<\/strong> (how much is exposed) and <strong>exposure duration<\/strong> (how long is exposure to the substance).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pollutants at the workplace<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact with pollutants may occur at the workplace during the course of work. In these cases, the <strong>employer<\/strong> must prepare a <strong>risk assessment<\/strong>. This must list the <strong>pollutants<\/strong> and the <strong>necessary safety measures<\/strong>. The employer must <strong>give<\/strong> the <strong>employee a safety briefing<\/strong> <strong>and document it<\/strong>. The legal basis is provided by the Hazardous Substances Ordinance and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Harmful substances in the home<br><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Exposure to pollutants can also occur in <strong>the private environment<\/strong>. They can be present in different forms: as <strong>dusts, aerosols or fumes<\/strong>. Such exposure can be caused by <strong>renovation or refurbishment work<\/strong> that results in dust exposure. <strong>New furniture<\/strong> or <strong>paint coats<\/strong> can also be the trigger when <strong>substances<\/strong> are <strong>released into the ambient air<\/strong>; this is generally described as <strong>&#8220;outgassing<\/strong>&#8220;. These symptoms range from <strong>irritation of the mucous membranes<\/strong> to <strong>headaches<\/strong> and <strong>breathing difficulties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>legal regulation for the protection of employees<\/strong> can be found in the <strong>Occupational Health and Safety Act<\/strong> and the <strong>risk assessment<\/strong>. In addition, the <strong>occupational limit value (OEL)<\/strong> must be observed and <strong>exposure to pollutants at the workplace<\/strong> must always be kept as low as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How can this be remedied?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Both in the <strong>office<\/strong> and <strong>at home<\/strong>, <strong>regular air exchange<\/strong> is necessary to remove a large proportion of unwanted air components. The easiest way to do this is to<strong> air the room<\/strong> regularly (at least 3 times a day) by opening the windows wide for approx. 10 minutes to allow air exchange to take place.
