The measurement with the <strong>measuring device SG350ex<\/strong> is used to check occupational health and safety. It can be used to test whether the permissible occupational limit values of the respective mixtures are exceeded or whether there is no specific health hazard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Definition of RCP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The abbreviation <strong>RCP<\/strong> stands for the <strong>description of the measurement method<\/strong>: <strong>reciprocal<\/strong> <strong>calculation procedure<\/strong>. It is a <strong>measurement and calculation procedure<\/strong> that determines the <strong>occupational limit value<\/strong> of various hydrocarbon mixtures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regularly checking compliance with limit values is an important aspect of occupational safety and employee protection.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is determined during the RCP measurement?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hydrocarbon mixtures<\/strong> are listed in the REACH Regulation as so-called <strong>UVBC substances<\/strong>, i.e. substances whose composition is variable or unknown &#8211; complex reaction products or biological materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As can be deduced from the name, these <strong>compounds consist of<\/strong> <strong>carbon (C) and hydrogen (H<\/strong>). These compounds include <strong>aliphatics<\/strong> and <strong>aromatics<\/strong>.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>aliphatics<\/strong><\/span> are compounds that are lipophilic (fat-soluble) and non-polar. They are not aromatic and can consist of saturated (C-C single bond), unsaturated (C-C double bond) and cyclic hydrocarbons and thus form the opposite of <strong>aromatic carbon compounds<\/strong>. Examples of such compounds are C<sub>2<\/sub>H<sub>2<\/sub> (ethyne, acetylene) or C<sub>3<\/sub>H<sub>8<\/sub> (propane). <br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why is an RCP measurement carried out<\/strong>?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As the health risk of mixtures cannot be attributed to one substance, another solution must be found. Therefore, the<strong> composition of the hydrocarbon mixtures <\/strong>is determined in order to determine the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>occupational<\/strong><\/span> to be able to <strong>calculate the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">occupational exposure limit value (OEL)<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These <strong>hydrocarbon mixtures<\/strong> are therefore divided into three categories <strong>in TRGS 900:<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>C<sub>6<\/sub>-C<sub>8<\/sub> Aliphates limit values: 700mg\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C<sub>9-<\/sub>C<sub>14<\/sub> Aliphates limit values: 300mg\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C<sub>9-<\/sub>C<sub>14<\/sub> Aromatics Limit values: 50mg\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These<strong> <\/strong>limit values are the results of numerous studies and data collections with regard to the hazard potential of individual substances contained in the mixtures.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What health hazards do substance mixtures pose?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As these are mixtures of substances, it is not possible to assess a general hazard.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RCP measurement <\/strong>is therefore an important tool in the field of occupational health and safety. <br>The symptoms of exposure are as numerous as the substances involved. They range from <strong>headaches (e.g. with cyclohexane)<\/strong> to <strong>respiratory irritation (e.g. with cumene<\/strong>). There are some substances that are included in the calculation with their own OEL. These include, for example, cyclohexane (C<sub>6<\/sub>H<sub>12<\/sub>) and n-hexane (C<sub>6<\/sub>H<sub>14<\/sub>).
