When inhaled, these dust particles can penetrate the alveoli (air sacs in the lungs). The danger is that the particles are deposited in the lungs and cause irritation, which leads to scarring of the lung tissue. In the long term, so-called &#8220;pneumoconiosis&#8221; can develop. Alveolar dust particles are usually up to 10 \u00b5m in size.    <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since <strong>01.01.2005, a limit value <\/strong>for the<strong> fine dust fraction<\/strong> <strong>PM10 <\/strong>of 50\u00b5m\/m\u00b3 in relation to the daily mean value has <strong>applied throughout Europe<\/strong>. This value may not be exceeded more than 35 times a year. PM10 describes the aerodynamic diameter &#8211; i.e. the size &#8211; of the dust particles. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Particulate matter occurrence<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are numerous <strong>workplaces<\/strong> where fine dust occurs. These can be filling plants, workshops or other production facilities, for example. In these cases, <strong>occupational health and safety<\/strong> applies in order to reduce the risk to the employees concerned. You can find more information on this in our articles on occupational health and safety.<br>However, it is not only at the workplace that fine dust pollution can occur, but also in everyday life.<br>There is a wide range here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>in industrial plants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in road traffic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>when vacuuming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>during renovation work in the apartment\/house etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As we are aware of the damage to health, particularly through long-term exposure, it is important to contain this. At the workplace, this is regulated by the risk assessment and the protective measures contained therein. But how do you protect yourself in everyday life? The simplest measure is to <strong>ventilate living spaces<\/strong> regularly and completely. One major issue is the pollution caused by <strong>road traffic<\/strong> and how this can be reduced.
